What could we do for you?

We use technology to provide our clients with solutions which help them to exceed their goals and give them a competitive edge in their marketplace. Unlike other companies we don’t stop at internet design. We develop web-based applications and offer our customers database integration, multimedia solutions, consultancy and training.

We have helped our clients to exceed their goals in many ways; here are two examples of how we applied technology to create success for Corus.

The Corus Cost Comparator
Corus sell steel. Steel varies in its machinability, hardness and durability. Most clients simply buy the cheapest steel they can find. In a bid to increase sales of more profitable steel specifications, we worked with Corus to develop a web-based tool which would show clients how buying more expensive steel could actually save them money.

We entered the machinability for each steel grade. A higher machinability means that the product can be made quicker and with fewer replacements of the lathes and drills that work the material.

A sales person would then sit down with a client and ask them what grade of steel they currently used, what their average machining costs were and what characteristics where most important to them.

Once this small amount of information was entered into the application it returned a list of similar steels which met their needs and drew a graph plotting the steel cost, machining cost and overall costs.

Usually this showed at least one or two grades that reduce machining costs much more than the increased cost per tonne. So everyone was happy! The client reduced costs and Corus sold more profitable steel.

Corus Alloy Surcharges
Following another meeting with Corus we discovered that they were sending out paper copies of their Alloy Surcharges to each of their clients, every quarter. Not only was this bad for the environment but it was also inefficient and costly.
Steel is basically iron with varying amounts of different alloys added. The price for iron is reasonably stable but alloy prices do change. Each quarter, Corus and most other steel producers create a list of all their steel grades and the total cost of the alloy surcharge for each grade.

We created a simple application to calculate this information for all steel grades and put it online for clients to print out themselves. Now, Corus simply adds the current surcharges for each of the four alloys and the application does the rest.

The application cost less than £1,000 to develop. As a result, Corus no longer have to pay printing costs, envelope stuffing costs or postage costs. The old paper surcharge list was on average 10 pages of A4 paper and they sent it to around 1,000 clients. Considerring the current price of 40p for a large second-class letter, the application saved them £400 on postage costs, every three months. That is £1,200 each year. Add to this envelopes, paper costs and manual labour and the real saving is even larger!
